This week I rocked because.....Episode 6.

Well it's that time of week again. Time to bask in the awesomeness that is you, and all you have achieved this past week. Things have been a bit up and down this week here at Chateau Rusty (I seem to be saying that a lot lately), but I have been able to achieve some bits and pieces in between the moaning and pity parties for one.

This week I rocked because:
  • I managed to wash my hair not once, but twice! "Whoa, Crazy Lady", I hear you say. But hey. It was nice to have clean hair for an entire week.
  • I managed to get some crafting going on and am in the process of immortalising some of my old work material into and art piece. Has been quite therapeutic.
  • I cooked my eldest a sticky date pudding and made the toffee sauce from scratch as well. He's been great taking me to all my appointments and generally caring for his decrepit old mum, so it was the least I could do.
  • After somewhat of a post-new diagnosis melt down, I went and sat out in my garden, felt the soil between my toes and just let myself breathe. Didn't even beat myself up for it (well mostly) afterwards.
  • I even shared a short video of the difficulties I'm having with my facial muscles at present over on FB, not pretty by any stretch of the imagination. I ummed and ahhed about it, but glad I did now as it led me to a great support page and some truly lovely fellow patients/friends who shared their stories with me. Which is what this whole awareness, unmasking of illness malarky is all about.

So tell me, how have you rocked this week?

Feel free to share with anyone else who you think may benefit from recognising and celebrating, just how much they've rocked this past week.

Cheers
Michelle :)

I've been listening to a bit of Sia this week and these lyrics seems to have stuck out.

"I'm bulletproof, nothing to lose
Fire away, fire away
Ricochet, you take your aim
Fire away, fire away
You shoot me down but I won't fall
I am titanium
You shoot me down but I won't fall
I am titanium"

  1. I've made it both of my husbands Dr appointments and took him to the er this afternoon. I also went in front of the ssi appeal board which is 2 hours away and a Dr for me. One more Dr for my hubby tomorrow and then a day or two to rest and do the household stuff.

  2. I found that if my hubby puts my daughter's bed at the end of mine, I can help hold her hair while she gets sick in the middle of the night due to the flu...with out passing out every time I "jump up" to help her. Still a "kick ass" mom!

  3. I rock because, my poor granddaughter (16) had a physical melt down at the genetic specialist office & I was texted to get to the hospital immediately...I was sitting out in the car & managed to get up 7 or 8 floors ( by elevator)...the Dr. asked how I had been able to survive so well with EDS, POTS & I charmingly responded..."I'm a BITCH!!" My granddaughter will be having knee surgery & now applying for S.S.I. per the Dr. orders. It's hard to be charming when your winded!!

    1. HA! I agree it is hard to be charming when you're winded! :) I am impressed you made it through all that. I hope your granddaughter is okay and the surgery goes well. My youngest had both knees done last year, so I know it can be a really long haul with recovery, let alone the surgery. Good luck with SSI. I don't knwo how all the US system works but it seems a very complicated process xx

  5. Good for all of you, you DO ROCK!!
I rock because this week I was able to stand for 1.5 hours teaching a high school (homeschool) Chemistry Lab class to six teenagers at my house, which means that not only was I able to teach, but it was accomplished after I cleaned the house first :) Today, my dogs have a grooming appointment, then I have to get the pool water tested, then take the kids to their homeschool co-op cooking class, then jet home to pack up for a relaxing weekend in our new weekend getaway home that we just closed on last Friday. I include today's only because I am certain to rock it!!

    1. Congratulations on your new holiday home! I hope it is the start of many lovely memories to come. I don't know if I'm more impressed with the standing for 1.5 hrs or that you managed 6 teenagers. The latter alone is enough to qualify you as a rock star!! :)

  7. This week I shook off my self pity took my ballet shoes off the wall and tied then onto my achy feet. Then I did ballet exercises for five minutes for the first time since I hung them up after I was told I would never dance classical ballet ever again. Proving the "experts" wrong one releve at a time :) Dance is how I live, breathe, and love myself. No one or no illness will ever change that.

    1. That is brilliant Colleen I am so happy for you. I wish you many more dances in your future and a big "suck it" to the doctors who said you'd never do it again. You most definitely ROCK!!!!

All who are lovely enough to comment should be showered with cup cakes, glitter and macarons. I promise to use my spoon bending mind powers to try and get that happening for all who are lovely enough to share their words. Those who go the extra step to share posts should really get a free unicorn. Or at least the gift of finding the shortest and quickest line at the supermarket on a regular basis. xx
