This week I rocked because....

I'm starting a new weekly event here on the blog. It's something I've been thinking about since I wrote this post last year.

So often we get overwhelmed with the daily stress of dealing with chronic illness. It can seem like things never get better. That it is just difficult, after stressful, after disheartening.

Unless we consciously start to look for the good, however big or small it may be, we can miss just what we do achieve.

Unless we start to document those events, it is easy to forget just how much we've achieved.

Victories come big and small. For some, it could be making it through a shift at work. For others, simply getting out of bed or managing a shower. Lets face it, some days simply managing not to cough-sneeze your medication into your right nostril (true story) is up there with creating world peace. Each is an achievement and needs to be celebrated.

So from now on Friday on the blog will be known as,

This week I rocked because....

In the comments take the time to think about and write what you've achieved this past week.

I'll start:

This week I rocked because

  • I made it up to 10mins on my minicycle.
  • I managed to shave one and a half armpits (no easy feat when you can't lift your left arm).
  • I managed to stew up some rhubarb.
  • I potted one plant.
  • I made it through a night out, and got to sing show tunes.

So tell me, how have you rocked this week?

Feel free to share with anyone else who you think may benefit from recognising and celebrating, just how much they've rocked this past week.

Cheers
Michelle :)

And just in case you're having trouble thinking of the ways you have rocked, I give you the best motivational song of all time. Put on your beret and your way too tight jeans, and get your strut on.

  1. I rocked this week because I made it through a whole day at an amusement park and a concert! Haven't had that long of fun days in a while.

  2. I rocked because I made it through two hours of work...the first work I've done in 7 months...and then I rock even more because I've forced myself to rest for the rest of the week.

    1. HA! Yes the forcing yourself to rest can be just as impressive as working. Go Kate!

  3. This week rocked because I finally got the results back from the extensive testing I had done last week and there are no further declines. In fact, everything is looking pretty stable as of right now. And I was able to enjoy a night out shopping with my mom and sister.

  4. That's fantastic news Alisha. Stability is always a cause for celebration. And a night out shopping is so lovely. :)

  5. This week I rocked because I made some boundaries with a friend who was draining my emotional reserves. Instead of swallowing down my thoughts, I wrote them out. I stopped feeling ashamed of what I can't do and just laid it out: "I can't do it". Of course, I am a physically rockin' person anyway if I stand for too long, but this is a whole new way to rock. :-) I loik it.

  6. Banner Week Here…
Started and finished a knitted scarf.
Poured scalding liquid on my hand and actually felt pain for a short period of time.
The 15th is the 20 month anniversary of Gerson Lifestyle.
Filled my 30 day pill organizer.
Must have done something else but I forgot…

    1. Brilliant Jane. I am impressed that you have a 30 day pill organiser I need one of those. Not yay for the scalding water but I know how much excitement can be found in feeling that pain xx

    2. Thank you so much for the vote...

I decided after mixing up my pills one too many times to get a super box and I do love it. Makes life easier.

  7. I rocked because I looked after an 8 year old for a couple of hours, and on the same day produced a home cooked quiche and cake for a family dinner for six of us.
Reduced my migraine medication and only had two days of full on hard-to-deal-with migraine pain. Rock on botox!!
Plus I managed to take the dogs out to the park four mornings out of the five.
Wow! Looks good put down in black and white.

  14. I rock because this week because I spent three days on castle and fort visits with my five year old grandson, and on the third visit I decided I felt brave enough to enjoy looking around the fort on my own, what a wonderful feeling of freedom for someone who is housebound through the week and then only gets out of the house with the company of an 'appropriate adult' at week-ends! "I want to break free, I want to break free…" ;>)) Michelle you rock because you inspire me to keep finding the small things in my life that keep me on the right side of un-depressed xx Tricia

    1. I have that song in my head now Tricia! Independence like that is definitely freeing and I'll have to say I'm really impressed that you did after already being out and about for a few days beforehand. Tricia it's all of you that keep me going to. There are some truly amazing people out there xx

  15. I rocked because I got something written that's been on my mind for weeks, I got a lot of recuperation in yesterday without scolding myself (much) for not being more active, and I have not yet had a meltdown because I haven't gotten a shower for the third day. I think I might be strong enough to do it today, in fact!

I LOOOVE this idea. Brilliant. Will snag it and point to your blog here. xo

All who are lovely enough to comment should be showered with cup cakes, glitter and macarons. I promise to use my spoon bending mind powers to try and get that happening for all who are lovely enough to share their words. Those who go the extra step to share posts should really get a free unicorn. Or at least the gift of finding the shortest and quickest line at the supermarket on a regular basis. xx
