I know here not just Psychiatry but Psychology are also looking at increasing the use of telehealth, which makes sense as in both cases a hands on review is less likely to be required. It really is the future and I love that it means more people can get the care they need.Michelle Rogerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16472120868084570461noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6181780691238814823.post-3286497822110659112017-01-05T21:32:06.410+11:002017-01-05T21:32:06.410+11:00A great post, I also think telemedicine is the fut...A great post, I also think telemedicine is the future. I know a lot of people here in Berlin use counsellors in the UK (its very hard to get mental health care in Germany, big waiting lists and not that many english speaking counsellors available). I reviewed this product in an article yesterday : http://www.tytocare.com/tytohome/ its expensive at the moment but you can see it would work well in a number of situations. On some of the health chats I've been on, most of the talk is about reluctance to change and it being an impost on the doctor, financially and educationally, and some in the US in particular, worry about being sued if they miss something. All of that is about the doctor and none of it is about the patient.

So many are caught in the position of not being able to leave their home to see a doctor or simply living too far away. That you were bed-bound and no one would come to see you is appalling. I remember as a kid doctors made house visits but in the last 10yrs in particular, it seems to have become a rarity reserved only for those on pallcare. Telehealth wouldn't be suitable for all health issues but it could definitely cover a lot if used appropriately.
Michelle Rogerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16472120868084570461noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6181780691238814823.post-87579286720788723272017-01-04T19:08:12.237+11:002017-01-04T19:08:12.237+11:00Fantastic post! I really like the idea of having a room set aside with a nurse to do the hands-on stuff.

I often wonder why so many doctors refuse to offer telehealth, and have come to the conclusion that they do not offer patient-centred treatment. It is clinician-centred, catering to only their needs and not understanding the real, lived experience of people with disabilities. When I was bed-bound, most health professionals in Warrnambool refused to travel the approx. 2 mins to consult and put me in the "too-hard" basket. That is something no one should have to experience, and I hope the medical profession as a whole catches up with the needs of their patients.Siobhan (Chronically Siobhan)https://www.blogger.com/profile/08205646156083423676noreply@blogger.com
